Cuando vivía en Nueva York, Mariángel Gonzales solía enviarle a su hermano mayor una carta escrita en puño y letra todos los meses. Él padece de esquizofrenia y la correspondencia  le hacía sentir que alguien importante le pensaba.

"Cuando me mudo a la Isla, las cartas dejan de hacer tanto sentido por la cercanía geográfica actual, y empecé a enviarle postales. La oferta de postales aquí [en Puerto Rico] es terrible. Su gran mayoría representan a una isla sin detalles y sin emociones. Muy comerciales para mi gusto. Entonces comencé a tomar fotos pensando en cómo se verían en una postal. Terminé imprimiéndolas y enviándole a mi hermano mis piezas por correo y, como de costumbre, una vez al mes sin fallar", explicó Gonzales.

"Los detalles en la fotografía son muy importantes para mí. Entiendo que uno a veces ve las cosas muy rápido y muchos detalles se pierden. Cada postal es siempre una pausa", detalló la artista.

Al dorso de cada tarjeta aparece, a modo de firma, una caricatura del rostro de la artista realizada por Miguel Ángel Hernández.

Descripción de las postales de acuerdo a la artista:

1. "Sin break" - "Es una postal medio para pelos. La tomé hace unos meses y muestra una taza vacía de café y la Isla con una cobertura de cenizas y colillas de cigarrillos americanos."

2. "Quenepas" - "Es una simple muestra de lo hermosas que son (sin mencionar lo ricas). Cuando uno come una quenepa está tan pompeao que se olvida de contemplar lo de afuera con detenimiento para sucumbir al consumo dulce de adentro."
